Data Erasure Methods

In this section I explain the details of a number of ways of erasing data from an electronic storage medium. This is not an exhaustive list - it is just intended to give examples of how data can be erased and the security levels provided.

Areas covered are:

• Software data erasure; the methods used by commercial data erasure software to remove data from memory.

And

• Hardware data erasure; the types of machines available to erase and destroy data from memory.
